Welcome to Match Day on Mothers in Medicine

Welcome to our 5th (!) Topic Day at Mothers in Medicine: Match Day. Today, we'll be featuring posts about our experiences with the big day.

As promised, we are also giving away 10 (!) copies of the book "Match Day" by Brian Eule. (See reviews by myself and Fizzy earlier this week). To enter, leave a comment to this post with your email address and we'll select 10 random readers to receive a free copy sent to them! You have until midnight tonight to leave a comment, so spread the word, tell your friends, score a copy!

And, good luck to those going through the actual match who will be finding out tomorrow at noon EST!

Posts will be publishing regularly throughout the day. Scroll down to see the posts....

  1. I'm only an M3 right now, but I am quickly realizing that Match Day tomorrow for the M4s means only one thing: I'm next. It's exhilarating and terrifying at the same time! I've really appreciated your thoughts about the book - I plan on buying it if you guys don't pick me :-)

  2. I've enjoyed reading the reviews about this book. I'm really interested in learning more about Match Day, especially as it pertains to women and their families. As an MS4, I've been on tenterhooks for months about tomorrow. As an MS4 with a PGY2 fiance locked down in one city, I've been looking for every distraction I can find to stave off the panic attacks! ;)

    Thanks a ton!

  4. I'm an M2, so still a little far from my match, but it's surprising how often people ask about where you want to do residencies... which always leads to the "well, i don't have complete control over that."

    Thanks for putting this together!

    Katie (yes, another one).

  5. I am so excited to read the posts today about the match! I am a 29 year old mother of 3 and am starting med school this summer. This site has been such an encouragement to me and I strongly suspect it will continue to be so!

  8. I think you guys have convinced me to buy it if I don't win it :) I'm an MS4, but took time off to have my daughter so I won't be matching this year (though I'll be excited tomorrow to see where my classmates matched!). smithieshy05 at yahoo dot com.

  12. I'm a tax lawyer who loves reading medical books and blogs. There's no match day equivalent for lawyers - I'd say the most angst-ridden day is the day when you find out whether you've passed or failed the bar exam, but we find out individually in the privacy of our homes. I hope everyone who is reading this blog and is waiting to find out the results tomorrow gets into their top-choice program. Good luck! suzkim [at] gmail [dot] com.

  23. I really appreciated the reviews on the book. I would love a copy, not just to read myself, but also for my husband and mom to read. I think that reading what other people go through helps us cope with our own stress as we await our own match tomorrow.

Thanks for the great blog. It has really helped add perspective to all the stress I've gone through.

Have linked to this post and those below on my blog. Thanks for posting. Australia doesn't have a Match day - we apply to every state/territory and it is a bit of a free for all. Being a cynic I just wish it was all drawn out of a hat to save everyone the stress. (But hey, medical students can't help but stress, our type A personalities won't let us).
